So I had an interesting experience that I noticed after our music lecture. I downloaded the song "S and M" from Brittany Spears and Rihanna because I practice to it for a dance class and it has a great beat per minute (Don't Judge). I decided to listen to it one day on the road and I noticed this new alter ego come out in my driving. I started driving faster, singing a long, and I made a couple of questionable lane changes. My energy level increased and my heart felt like it was going a little bit faster. In the midst of all these biological changes I caught myself and thought, WOW music is powerful!
I turned it down and focused on my driving and decided that music has a great impact on us and can help or hinder our ability to live "life". Glad I made it safely to my destination.

Haha I didn't recognize this song so I looked it up and upon hearing recognized that I have definitely heard it on the radio. So it is a funny thing about our major because we have learned so much about sexual content that degrades women and I can't help hearing something like that without thinking of that stuff. I had a thought today in class though when we saw the sexually oriented play station etc. ads and I thought these women promoting themselves as objects! I wondered what they thought about that. Then I thought that we probably don't point the finger of blame at them because they are working for money and it is more the designers at fault. Is that true?
ReplyDeleteI see your point! I feel that it is hard to point the finger at anyone other than the consumer because with no demand there would be no supply. Just like in operant conditioning with the reward for good behavior, the more people react or behave in a way to support sexual media, the more producers and models get together to claim their piece. Thank you for the post!
